NYLON FIBER

 INTRODUCTION

  • Nylon is one of the most important polymers that can be formed into sheets, rods, fibers, bristles, tubes, coatings and molding powder.

MANUFACTURING

  • Carothers synthesized a salt from extremely pure diamine and diacid reactants.
  • Then he removed the impurities by crystallization of the salt followed by heating to produce a high molecular weight polymer, poly-hexamethylenadipamide .
  • This polymer is called as nylon 6,6 because both reactants have six carbon atoms.
  • This polymer was term as "super polyamide".
  • Nylon 6,6 fiber has application in dress, parachutes, tire cord, carpets, socks, fishing line, bristles for brushes, surgical threads.

  • Other nylons have also been used in fiber formation such as Nylon-6 .
  • Nylon-6 is polycaprolactum, which has the follwing chemical formula

 INTRODUCTION An orifice is a small opening of any cross-section (such as circular, triangular, rectangular etc.) on the side or at the bottom of a tank through which a fluid is flowing. It is used to measure rate of flow of fluid  Thickness of orifice in direction of flow is very small in comparison to its other dimensions. i.e Orifice has a sharp edge so that there is an contact with fluid and consequently minimum friction resistance at its sides. If sharp edge is not provided the flow will depend on thickness of orifice and roughness of its boundary too. The rate of flow of fluid through orifice depend on shape, size and form of orifice.
